Managing and Leading Financial Institutions During the Pandemic :Cross – border learning

This four-session executive program will build on the experiences from leading Bankers from outside Nepal, but who all have extensive knowledge of the Nepali financial sector.
The program will focus on the challenges in leading and managing Banks as we move through the pandemic. It will help participants understand how to

  • Motivate and energize staff: keeping staff motivated while operating from homes or in constrained environments, how to set goals and keep deadlines during the pandemic, help in employee engagement and look for ways to enhance employee job satisfaction,
  • Reach more and retain existing customers: aiming for customer service excellence in the context of the new normal with non-physical contact with clients, and developing customer-centric strategy for expansion and growth during the pandemic, and
  • Re-engineer internal operations: using technology to drive and implement strategy/reforms, the new move towards digitization, using the pandemic period as the best time to step back and design efficient systems and
  • Learn from best practices.

It will help participants understand how Banks outside Nepal have been dealing with the impacts of the pandemic and addressing issues in the above noted areas. Additionally, the program will highlight strategic approaches on how to plan growth in the context of the uncertainty of COVID19. Ultimately, the program will focus on the new normal and help participants to learn to avoid pitfalls during these challenging times. The program will adopt an interactive learning approach with cases and targeted readings to facilitate learning from the sessions.

Eminent Faculty

Mr. Anukool Bhatnagar
Mr. Bhatnagar is the Chief General Manager at State Bank of India, Delhi. Previously he was the MD/CEO of Nepal SBI Bank Ltd. He has completed Master's Degree in History and is a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers with Bachelor’s Degree in Science. He started his career in SBI in 1985 and has held diverse portfolios in Banking-operation, Administration, Credit, Human Resources, International Banking and NRI business during his illustrious career spanning 32 years in the State Bank of India.


Mr. Prem K. Thampi
Mr. Thampi has banking professional with wide industry experience of over 35 years including 26 years of experience at two of the premium banking institutes in India, viz. SBI and ICICI Bank. He has experienced of international exposure viz. ICICI Bank, Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Bank of Tanzania, in establishing and managing banking operations in overseas markets. As General Manager in the Catholic Syrian Bank, Kerala, he has experience in transforming an old generation bank into a dynamic new generation bank. He has completed MSc from Banaras Hindu University, India.


Mr. Krishna Joshi
Mr. Joshi is an experienced banker specializing in transaction banking. Based in Singapore, he has three .decades of experience with banks operating in diverse markets, having performed country, regional and global roles in sales & relationship management, business development & strategy, product management, project management, risk management and governance. He began his career with Nabil Bank before moving to American Express Bank and becoming its country representative for Nepal. He moved to Amex Singapore in a regional role in 2000. He is presently with the digital transformation & data team in DBS Bank, Singapore as the governance and project management lead for institutional banking.


Mr. Govinda Gurung
Mr. Gurung is serving as the CEO at Myanmar Citizens Bank Limited in Yangon, Myanmar. He previously served as the CEO of Civil Bank Ltd, Nepal. He is a multi-talented individual with over two decades experience in the banking industry. He has a demonstrated history with skills in banking, sales, public speaking, teamwork and project management and has strong business development acumen. He has completed MBA from, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.
